"The Science Fair Affair" is the second segment of the 16th episode in the season 2 of The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius.

Summary[]

Today is the annual school science fair and Jimmy planned to win this year with a new invention called the "I Can't Believe It's Not Oil 9000" which vacuums any garbage in sight and turns it into oil. Jimmy however could not enter this year, as Cindy led a campaign to ban Jimmy from the school and its science fair forever, citing unfair competition that she believes that other kids deserve a chance to win. The science fair continued as planned, with Principal Willoughby, Sam, Corky Shimatzu, and Ms. Fowl judging. Among the kid's science projects are Sheen with a starving iguana, Carl with a potato launcher, and Libby with a mood CD player and Cindy's Sweatsock Transmogrifier. The judges decide that Cindy is the winner. An ousted Jimmy stole the spotlight when it's revealed that his father contacted Lars Svenson, and his patented oil-generating machine earned him a Nobel Prize for science. Bolbi however intervened and showed off his mud-maker which drenched Hugh, Willoughby, and Svenson. The oil machine mistook anyone covered in mud as garbage and sucked them inside to be turned into oil. Jimmy could not hit the kill switch as he was stuck holding the control toggle to prevent the machine from mulching those inside. Cindy organized a plan to have Carl, Sheen, and Libby use their science projects to stop Jimmy's invention. Lars Svenson was angered by the flaw in Jimmy's machine and took back the Nobel Prize (even though it was Bolbi's fault, not Jimmy's). Principal Willoughby awarded the trophy to Carl, Sheen, and Libby for saving everyone which irritated Cindy as she orchestrated the plan. Jimmy tried to give Cindy reassurance that her efforts had saved everyone and that is more rewarding than anything else. Cindy responded to this by stuffing Jimmy into a giant sweater before angrily storming off.

Quotes[]

Sheen: "That's just what they're expecting. I call Carl Wheezer as a witness!"
Carl: "Huh?"
Sheen: "Mr. Wheezer, state your name."
Carl: "Carl Wheezer."
Sheen: "A likely story! Where were you on the night of the 16th?"
Carl: "I don't remember."
Sheen: "You don't remember or you don't want to remember? Answer the question!"
Carl: (timidly, slightly scared of the interrogation) "Which question?"
Sheen: "THE QUESTION YOU DARE NOT ANSWER!"
Carl: "Stop! Stop! I don't wanna go to prison! Stripes make me look hippy!"

Sheen: "I object!"
Principal Willoughby: "You're out of order!"
Sheen: "No, you're out of order! This court's out of order! The soda machine in the gym is out of order!"

(Cindy, with her hand still on the Mood CD Player, spots Jimmy and gets angry.)
Libby: "'Smash the Power' by Savage Lunch?!"

Lars Svenson: "'I Can't Believe It's Not Oil'!? Ha! (snatches the Nobel Prize from Jimmy) I can't believe you're not in jail."

Sheen: "Don't make me habeas your corpus!"

Cindy: "What's the point of winning if I can't beat Neutron?"
Libby: "Are you saying you miss Jimmy?"
Cindy: "No, I don't miss him."
(Cindy places her hand on Libby's CD player)
CD Player: ♫ I'm missing you so bad... ♫
(Libby stifles a laugh)
Cindy: (taking her hand off the CD player) "Oh, who asked you?"

Trivia[]

  • The name of Jimmy's invention is based on that of the popular butter substitute: "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter!"
  • It's hard to tell, but the invention Jimmy uses to fix Cindy's sweater machine looks very much like a Sonic Screwdriver from Doctor Who.
  • The handheld video game console Sheen plays on during the court session resembles Nintendo's Game Boy Advance.
  • This episode reveals that Cindy and Libby can invent things as well, but this is never seen again for some reason.
  • Music from "The Eggpire Strikes Back" is used when Carl, Sheen, and Libby used their inventions to stop Jimmy’s invention.
  • Lars Svenson is voiced by Billy West, speaking in a Swedish accent, and his voice sounds very similar to one of Billy West's characters from The Ren & Stimpy Show, Ren Hoek's cousin Sven who speaks in the same accent as Lars.
  • Judy doesn't appear in this episode.
  • Although this episode was released in 2004, you can actually see "Copyright 2003 Viacom International, Inc." at the end of the credits. This means that the episode was produced in 2003.

Goofs[]

  • When Lars gave Jimmy the Nobel Prize, he pinned it on Jimmy's shirt. But all through the episode it wasn't visible on Jimmy's shirt. However, it was there when Lars snatched the award off.
  • Lars pronounces the letter J with a Y sound, as in "Yimmy Neutron." However, at the end of the episode he says, "I can't believe you're not in jail!" with a hard "J" sound. However, this is could be because it would sound like he wanted Jimmy to go to Yale University.
  • The lizard Sheen uses clearly isn't an iguana. It's the same one from previous episodes.
  • Carl says he won't look good in stripes, which doesn't make sense because he's literally wearing them.
  • When Hugh says "Jimbo, I asked you to keep an eye on Goddard," The captions read "Jimbo, you weren't watching Goddard."
